Indonesia Extends Passport Validity to 10 Years

Jakarta, November 18, 2024 – The Indonesian government, through the Directorate General of Immigration, has announced a new policy extending the validity of Indonesian passports from 5 years to 10 years. This change, effective from early 2025, aims to simplify the travel process for Indonesian citizens, especially frequent travelers.

What Has Changed?
The new 10-year passport validity will be implemented starting January 2025 and applies to both standard and electronic passports (e-passports). With this extension, Indonesians will no longer need to renew their passports as often, saving time and costs.

However, this policy only applies to applicants aged 17 years and above. Applicants below 17 years of age will still receive passports with a 5-year validity, tailored to their age and travel needs.

Benefits for Overseas Indonesians
For Indonesians living abroad, this policy brings added convenience for renewing travel documents without returning to Indonesia. Coupled with the growing digitalization of consular services, the renewal process is expected to become faster and more efficient.
